Reason / Defects: The pump of the affected units may malfunction resulting in low suction levels or failure to provide suction. Hazards: Delay in suctioning secretions, blood or vomit blocking the airways can lead to suffocation if an alternative suction or ventilation method is not administered by the user. What to do: Laerdal will contact affected consumers in writing to arrange for replacement of the affected product. Upon receiving the replacement, consumers should dispose of the pump unit, but keep the carry bag, battery, external power supply and wire stand of the existing unit. Prior to receiving the replacement pump, consumers may continue to use the LCSU4 by following the recommendations below: 1. Do not block the patient tube for more than 10 seconds at a time at vacuum levels greater than 300mmHg; 2. Only use the approved accessories; and 3. Once the desired vacuum level is reached unblock the patient tube immediately.
