Child Enclosures Recalled by Several Companies NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 28, 1988 Release # 88-117 New Infant Strangulation Prompts Second Recall Of Child Enclosures WASHINGTON--Another infant strangulation in Pennsylvania involving an expandable wooden enclosure has prompted the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue a second recall notice for old accordion style enclosures which have been involved in at least seventeen incidents resulting in four deaths. Noting that many thousands of the enclosures have not been returned to manufacturers and are still being used, CPSC said, consumers should immediately remove, collapse and store enclosures pending return of the product. First announced in May, 1986 as part of a consent agreement between CPSC and six manufacturers, the recalled enclosures were manufactured by Memline Corporation (under the name-Nu-Line Industries); WBI, Inc., (formerly Worldsbest Industries, Inc.); Paris Manufacturing Corporation; North States Industries; Mapes Industries, Inc.; and Creative Playthings (enclosures were last sold by the firm in 1974 and is not affiliated with Creative Playthings, Ltd., of Framingham, Massachusetts).
