Reason / Defects: A stud on the upper shift arm of the engine may corrode when the engine is used in saltwater. This may affect the shift system and cause it to fail, resulting in a loss of shift function. Hazards: Risk of serious injury or death from a collision if there is a loss of shift function from the engine. What to do: Stop using boats with the affected engines and contact an authorised Mercury Marine dealer immediately. An authorised Mercury Marine dealer will repair the engine and update the service schedule to include the shift linkage greased every 100 hours.
